Open Access•Yuying Zhang, Shuangyan Qiu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: The associations of only-child status and household pet ownership with the risk of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are inconclusive, and the joint effects of only-child status and household pet ownership on ADHD have not been thoroughly investigated. Methods: A population-based study was conducted in 2021 involving preschool children aged 3-6 years attending kindergartens in Longhua District, Shenzhen, China. Parents w…

Open Access•Jianhui Yang, Esben Strodl et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: Older individuals are particularly susceptible to Omicron infection and long viral shedding durations. However, the associations between human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) status in older people, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, and viral shedding duration have not been determined. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the impact of HIV infection status on Omicron infection rates and viral shedd…

  • Association between micronutrient supplementation during pregnancy and preterm birth

Open Access•Liwen Ding, Yiliang Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background Preterm birth (PTB) is a leading cause of neonatal mortality and under-five mortality worldwide, with long-term health impacts. While micronutrient supplementation shows promise in preventing PTB, its effectiveness remains controversial due to confounding factors. This study aims to elucidate the association between micronutrient supplementation and PTB risk by analyzing a large-scale children survey and employing Mendelian Randomizati…

Open Access•Liwen Ding, Esben Strodl et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2025

Background: Neurobehavioral developmental disorders significantly affect children's future well-being and contribute to the global disease burden. While prenatal micronutrient supplementation is crucial for fetal neural development, their individual and combined effects on subsequent neurobehavioral outcomes in childhood remain poorly understood. This study aimed to examine the individual and combined effects of prenatal micronutrient supplementa…
