Substance use and incidence of metabolic syndrome before midlife among military adults
Backgrounds: Habitual substance use, i. e., alcohol, tobacco and betel nut, has been found with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in the general population, whereas the association remains unclear in physically fit military personnel. This study aimed to investigate the combination of these substances use and their associations with new-onset MetS in the military. Methods: A total of 2,890 military men and women, aged 18-39 years, wi…
Do the American guideline-based leisure time physical activity levels for civilians benefit the mental health of military personnel
Our findings indicate that participating in moderate-intensity leisure time PA level for ≥150 min/wk. may have a positive effect on mental health among military personnel. The impact appears to be even more significant when engaging in a higher PA level of ≥300 min/wk
Association of Liver Transaminase Levels and Long-Term Blood Pressure Variability in Military Young Males
Background : An inverse relationship of serum liver transaminases and mortality might be due to better blood pressure control in hypertensive patients. Whether it holds true regarding such an association for long-term blood pressure variability (BPV) in those without antihypertensive therapy is unclear. Methods : A population of 1112 military males without antihypertensive medications, aged 32 years, was collected from a retrospective longitudina…
