The Prevalence of LGBTQ+ Teachers in the United States
Due to limited data, we know little about the prevalence of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) educators. Using the American Community Survey and Census Pulse, we examine the representation of LGBTQ+ individuals in PK–12 teaching. We find that 3.3% to 3.5% of LGBTQ+ individuals are teachers; in contrast, 4.4% to 4.9% of non-LGBTQ+ individuals are teachers. This new evidence highlights the need for data collection and research…

This study uses longitudinal data to follow a cohort ( N = 4,465) of all early childhood education teachers working in publicly funded, center-based settings in Louisiana over a 3-year period. Two nineteenth-century Balinese genres in which the erotic predominates are epic kakawin poetry and tutur (religious manuals) on sexual yoga. The article points to the strong intertextual links between these diverse genres. Through their focus on practical sexual matters and on the pursuit of sexual pleasure as integral to spiritual growth, tutur and kakawin also offer insight into notions of gender and sexuality in nineteenth-century Bali
