Creativity as messy interface
This article builds on ethnographic fieldwork in Iceland, including interviews with writers and other literary figures. It shows how, in conversations and interviews, some interlocutors turned to aquatic and piscatorial tropes, both when they described the literary field and when they described their writing practice. Drawing on material from 12 months of ethnographic fieldwork in Iceland, this paper zooms in on two Icelandic writers, Andri Snær Magnason and Haukur Ingvarsson, and their works Dreamland (Draumalandið, 2006) and Ecostentialism (Vistarverur, 2018), respectively. These two works relate in different ways to the construction of the hydropower plant Kárahnjúkavirkjun in East Iceland. The hydropower plant was completed in 2006 despite mass protests an…

Illness trajectories are particularly characterised by the temporal dimension of human existence. In the area of low back pain, patients often have challenging temporal experiences such as unproductive waiting time and fragmented, repetitive consultations over many years.
