Understanding the public's decision-making about seasonal flu vaccination during a pandemic
Understanding the behavioural factors influencing flu vaccination is crucial for mitigating seasonal infection outbreaks. This study utilised the Precaution Adoption Process Model (PAPM) to examine the public's decision-making about seasonal flu vaccination through an online cross-sectional survey with 2004 participants in England, UK. Results showed varying stages of decision-making: 7% in Stage 2 (unengaged), 10% in Stage 3 (undecided), 7% in S…
Healthcare Professionals' Responses to Complaints
Background Patient complaints in healthcare settings can provide feedback for monitoring and improving healthcare services. Behavioural responses to complaints (e.g., talking or apologising to a patient) can influence the trajectory of a complaint for instance, whether a complaint is escalated or not. We aimed to explore healthcare professional (HCP) and service user (patient and carer) views on complaints' management and the perceived factors in…
National biodiversity strategies under-utilize the potential for individual behavior change
Biodiversity conservation is increasingly recognized as a main challenge for the sustainability agenda. With humans at the epicenter of the biodiversity crisis, conserving nature requires changes in individual behavior. This study reveals gaps regarding the incorporation of behavior change into national biodiversity policy. A total of 1306 policy actions proposed by ten National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) from all world reg…

Dispositional forgiveness buffers paranoia following interpersonal transgression
OBJECTIVE: To test a novel proposition that dispositional forgiveness has the unrecognized benefit of buffering feelings of paranoia following negative interpersonal experiences and interpersonal transgressions. METHODS: In Study 1 (N = 128), we used an experimental paradigm, the Prisoner's Dilemma Game (PDG), to test the premise that an interpersonal transgression increases state paranoia. Study 2 (N = 180) used a longitudinal design to test the…
Self-dehumanisation in voice hearers
Reflexive thematic analysis of voice hearers' accounts identified self-dehumanisation as the endpoint where six experiential continua coalesce. Experiential movement along these continua was affected by a range of interpersonal, intrapersonal, and societal forces over time, including dehumanising attitudes of others and voice malevolence and omnipotence. Future research might examine if and how psychological therapies aimed at those experiencing …
The critical factors in producing high quality and policy-relevant research
Findings highlight the positive impact of strong evidence-provider/user relationships and the importance of governments' commitment to co-produced research programmes to address policy problems and transparency in the dissemination of methods and findings. From the findings we have created a framework, 'STEPS' (Sharing, Transparency, Engagement, Partnership, Strong relationships), of five recommendations for units working with policymakers. These…

Responding mindfully to unpleasant thoughts and images
OBJECTIVE: To assess the reliability and validity of the Southampton mindfulness questionnaire (SMQ), a 16-item measure of mindful awareness of distressing thoughts and images. METHODS: A total of 256 people participated, comprising a non-clinical community sample of 134 (83 meditators and 51 non-meditators) and a clinical sample of 122 people with a current distressing psychosis. To assess concurrent validity, non-clinical participants and half …

The psychological, emotional and social consequences of disrupted reproductive and sexual development in men are poorly understood. Interview data from eight men who had experienced gender atypical sexual development were analysed using the framework of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. The concept of 'discreditment' appeared to dominate these men's experience of themselves and others. Emotional distress was most keenly felt when doubt wa…
The person in recovery from acute and severe psychosis
The role of 3 personality dimensions (i.e., dependency, self-criticism, and efficacy) in recovery from an acute and severe psychosis was examined. Conceptualizing psychosis as involving difficulties in establishing psychological boundaries, the authors hypothesized that dependency has a greater disruptive effect on recovery than self-criticism. Results of a reanalysis of longitudinal data (N = 76) of people with schizophrenia spectrum disorders d…
Psychometric properties of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale with a population of members of a depression self‐help group
This paper reports the psychometric properties of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale when used with 341 members of a self‐help group for people with depression. We report internal reliability and factor structure for the complete data set and factor structure for groups split by gender, previous hospitalization for depression and current use of medication for depression. In each instance the factor structure reflects the intended depressio…
