  • Enacting Critical Care

Open Access•Ashley Jackson Easley, Leslie Rupert Herrenkohl et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Education•2026•Citada por: 1•Referências: 43

During the COVID-19 pandemic, discourse emphasized a lost generation and learning loss. However, community educators worked tirelessly to meet the needs of youth, families, and communities. However, there needs to be more research documenting the actions educators took to support their communities. Using critical care, we characterize the actions of community educators in an urban west coast city and an urban midwestern city and the sociopolitica…

  • Data in the making, political struggle, and epistemic (in)justice

    Open Access•Leslie Rupert Herrenkohl, Jiyoung Lee et al.•ARTICLE•New Media & Society•2024•Referências: 6

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the limits of big data to guide decision-making in times of crisis. As people navigated daily life, they were confronted with the reality that data were often not yet material but rather in-the-making. Drawing upon critical and feminist lenses and participatory methodologies, this study investigates the data stories of nine people of Asian descent living in the United States. Findings illustrate how participants navi…

  • Community Infrastructuring as Necessary Ingenuity in the Covid-19 Pandemic

    Open Access•Day Greenberg, Angela Calabrese Barton et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Researcher•2020•Citada por: 6•Referências: 9

We report on how one community builds capacity for disrupting injustice and supporting each other during the COVID-19 crisis. We engaged long-term community partners (parents, their youth, and local community center leaders) in on-going conversation on their experiences with the pandemic. We learned with and from community partners about how and what people in communities most vulnerable in this crisis learn about and respond to COVID-19 in highl…

  • Inside and Outside

Leslie Rupert Herrenkohl, Keiko Kawasaki et al.•ARTICLE•The New Educator•2010•Citada por: 3•Referências: 4

In this paper, we discuss our approach to teacher-researcher collaboration and how it is similar and different from other models of teacher collaboration. Our approach to collaboration employed design experimentation (Brown, 1992 Brown, A. L. 1992. Design experiments: Theoretical and methodological challenges in creating complex interventions in classroom settings. Journal of the Learning Sciences, 2(2): 141–178. [Taylor & Francis Online] , [Goog…

  • Sociocultural Theory as a Lens to Understand Organizational Learning

    Leslie Rupert Herrenkohl•ARTICLE•American Journal of Education•2008•Citada por: 2•Referências: 11

  • Intellectual Role Taking

    Leslie Rupert Herrenkohl•ARTICLE•Theory Into Practice•2006•Citada por: 1•Referências: 1

One of the major challenges of teaching whole class lessons in heterogeneous classrooms rests in finding ways to engage all participants in the conversation. Intellectual role taking, an approach developed and studied in the teaching of elementary science and history lessons, provides one possibility for handling this perennial pedagogical dilemma. Intellectual role taking builds on 2 wellknown and well-studied pedagogical approaches —complex ins…
