The relation between personal level of metacognitive self and attitudes towards pension
The study (N = 294) predicts the beneficial role of metacognitive-self (MCS) for attitudes towards pension among young adults. Participants filled in two questionnaires in random order: metacognitive-self questionnaire, and attitudes towards pension questionnaire (indicating fear about the elderly in the future). According to theoretical assumptions, the higher MCS the more positive attitudes towards future pensions and less fear about the future…
Economic status, emigration, and life satisfaction
The main aim of the study was to investigate the acculturation strategies and life satisfaction of Belarusians and Ukrainians living in Poland. The study participants (N = 423) provided socio-demographic data about themselves, when they came to Poland (before or during the Russian invasion of Ukraine), and filled in the acculturation and the life satisfaction questionnaires. The results indicated no difference in acculturation, education, or econ…
Market sophistication and metacognition of workers in collectivistic vs. individualistic countries
The study is designed to answer the question of whether and how economic and technological factors of collectivistic vs. individualistic countries relate to metacognition, meaning self-awareness of biases (metacognitive self, MCS). The latter was measured via a questionnaire (MCSQ – 40), translated (back – forth) into Polish, English, Vietnamese, Hindu, and Spanish (n = 945). Economic and technological factors were extracted from the Global Innov…
Does employment determine self-awareness of biases? Sociodemographic aspects of metacognitive self before and during Covid-19
Two studies (study 1 n = 705, study 2 n = 263) were designed to investigate the importance of being employed vs. unemployed for self – awareness of biases (metacognitive self) before and during COVID-19 pandemic. Sociodemographic expectations that the age, level of education, place of residence (little or large town or huge city people live in) might impact metacognitive self were turned down via results of the pilot study (n = 78). On the contra…

Do Good Old Philosophical Values Work Today? Polish Students’ Value Priorities in 2006 and 2017 – A Comparative Study
BACKGROUND. Values are concepts or beliefs about desirable end states or behaviors, that transcend specific situations, guide selection or evaluation of behavior and events, and are ordered by relative importance. Referring to Scheler’s philosophical concept, the hierarchies of values among Polish students were compared between 2006 (Fanslau & Brycz, 2006) and 2017. PARTICIPANTS AND PROCEDURE. 603 (in total) adults participated in two studies. Al…
The metacognitive self
The aim of this article is to present the theoretical motivational background regarding metacognitive self, which is being aware of how biases and psychological rules (like classic conditional) influence one's own behavior. Based on this framework, we used a Polish nationwide representative sample to create a reliable tool (the first study: n = 1200, the next study n = 600, Partner in Business Strategy Company as an external contractor, who serve…

The Role of Motivation to Reduce Obesity among Elderly People
The risk of obesity-related disorders is increased among the elderly, so changing eating habits can be an important element of prevention. The main aim of this article is to consider whether looking at pictures that present either fattening food or healthy food may motivate elderly people to change their nutrition habits. Might priming different kinds of food influence the attractiveness of the food for people in late adulthood undergoing obesity…
Construct and Concurrent Validity of the Positive Metacognitions and Positive Meta-Emotions Questionnaire in the Polish Population
The Positive Metacognitions and Positive Meta-Emotions Questionnaire (PMCEQ) of Beer and Moneta measures adaptive metacognitive beliefs when facing challenging situations. The psychometric properties of a Polish version of the PMCEQ are reported. The cultural adaptation of the instrument was conducted in a representative sample of adult Poles ( n = 600). The original three-factor structure of the PMCEQ was corroborated by confirmatory factor anal…
Cross-cultural differences in metacognitive self
Th e main aim of this study is to investigate the diff erences between levels of metacognitive self among cultural groups. Metacognitive self is a new concept meaning the level of insight into own biases. We focus on individual versus collective societies as well as the core characteristics of the metacognitive self. Our results indicate better selfinsight among collectivistic nations such as Vietnam, Japan, China and India in comparison to indiv…
Lay inferences of personality traits
In Study 1, 60‐item sets of behavioural acts exemplifying a personality trait were elicited for each of 40 traits. Each set of behaviours was then rated by 66 students for their inferential meaning (prototypicality) and evaluative meaning (valence). As predicted, the traits differed in the degree of congruence between the two meanings of their exemplifications. In Study 2, 80 subjects were presented with behaviour descriptions varying in their pr…
Effects of information content and evaluative extremity on positivity and negativity biases
This article extends models that assume that the integration of mixed (positive and negative) information results in a negativity bias in the morality domain but a positivity bias in the competence domain. Using functional analysis, this study predicted a positivity bias for moderately evaluated information and a negativity bias for extremely evaluated information. Content domain (competence vs. morality) and evaluative extremity produced main ef…
