Network Approach to Work Addiction
We aimed to estimate and compare networks of work addiction among Norwegian and Polish working individuals. The Bergen Work Addiction Scale was used to measure work addiction in four samples, two comprising responses of working Norwegians ( n 1 = 16,426; n 2 = 764) and two comprising responses of working Poles ( n 3 = 719; n 4 = 711). The networks were estimated jointly with the fused graphic lasso method. Additionally, we estimated symptoms’ cen…
Similarities and Differences Between Study Addiction and Study Engagement and Work Addiction and Work Engagement
This study aimed to investigate the relationships between symptoms of study addiction and their relationships with dimensions of study engagement. We used two samples in which study addiction was measured with the Bergen Study Addiction Scale and study engagement was measured with the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale for Students. The samples comprised Norwegian ( n = 1107) and Polish ( n = 776) students. The networks featured three clusters of node…
Gender perspectives on self‐censorship in organizations
Self‐censorship in organizations is an individual's decision not to share information on observed irregularities and misconduct of others. The propensity to self‐censor, motivated by belief that voice will not be heard, may reflect gender inequalities. In Study 1 ( N = 948), we test whether women manifest more self‐censorship than men and we verify whether this effect is maintained when women and men hold managerial positions. In two follow‐up st…
Work Addiction and Work Engagement
This study aimed to investigate direct relationships of work addiction symptoms with dimensions of work engagement. We used three samples in which work addiction was measured with the Bergen Work Addiction Scale and work engagement was measured with the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale. One sample comprised responses from working Norwegians ( n 1 = 776), and two samples comprised responses from working Poles ( n 2 = 719; n 3 = 715). We jointly estim…
Is the Polythetic Approach Efficient in Identifying Potentially Addicted to Work Individuals? Comparison of the Polythetic Approach With the Item Response Theory Framework
This study included investigation of efficiency of the threshold used to classify symptoms as present, investigation of efficiency of the cut-off point used to identify potentially addicted to work individuals, investigation of magnitude of the problem of class overlap, and investigation of effects of dichotomization of polytomous items on the estimates of the latent trait level. The sample comprised 16,426 working Norwegians (Mage = 37.31; SD = …
The metacognitive self
The aim of this article is to present the theoretical motivational background regarding metacognitive self, which is being aware of how biases and psychological rules (like classic conditional) influence one's own behavior. Based on this framework, we used a Polish nationwide representative sample to create a reliable tool (the first study: n = 1200, the next study n = 600, Partner in Business Strategy Company as an external contractor, who serve…
Construct and Concurrent Validity of the Positive Metacognitions and Positive Meta-Emotions Questionnaire in the Polish Population
The Positive Metacognitions and Positive Meta-Emotions Questionnaire (PMCEQ) of Beer and Moneta measures adaptive metacognitive beliefs when facing challenging situations. The psychometric properties of a Polish version of the PMCEQ are reported. The cultural adaptation of the instrument was conducted in a representative sample of adult Poles ( n = 600). The original three-factor structure of the PMCEQ was corroborated by confirmatory factor anal…
The Role of Peers in the Emergence of Heterosexual Romantic Relationships in Adolescence
Adolescents' peer structures and the quality of their friendships were explored as antecedents of romantic relationships. Longitudinal data were gathered in a sample of 180 high school students over a 3-year period from grade 9 to grade 11. Consistent with Dunphy (1963), small groups of close friends were predictive of other-sex peer networks which were, in turn predictive of the emergence of future romantic relationships. Indirect effects were f…
Peer Self-Concept in Adolescence
In this study, we examined the factor structure of the peer self-concept and its associations with structural and qualitative features of peer experiences in 1,627 male and female adolescents, enrolled in Grades 9 to 12. Confirmatory factor analysis supported a three-factor model that differentiated the peer self-concept vis-a-vis the peer group, close friendships, and romantic relationships. Results were consistent across grade and gender. Regre…
