Navigating Affective Extremes in Antarctica
This study investigates the affective experiences of Antarctic summer research teams through two complementary studies, examining daily triggers of positive affect (PA) and negative affect (NA) as well as coping strategies used by team members. In Study 1, we conducted interviews with eight experienced Antarctic researchers to identify recurring affective events. In Study 2, we collected detailed quantitative daily diaries and qualitative reflect…
Investigating the Effects of Trust in Isolated, Confined, and Extreme Teams
Trust is a critical component of teamwork, particularly in isolated, confined, and extreme (ICE) environments where collaboration directly impacts mission success and safety. This mixed-methods study examines the mechanisms of trust in ICE teams, integrating qualitative findings from Antarctic field missions with quantitative survey data from ICE personnel. Results reveal that trust is multi-dimensional, comprising cognitive and affective compone…
The Meaning of Work for Venezuelan Refugees in Brazil
The inclusion of refugees in the formal labor markets of host countries has been recognized as a sustainable solution to forced migration. In Brazil, due to the growing number of refugees, it is urgent to look at the difficulties faced by this population and develop strategies for their socio-economic inclusion. This study proposes a reflection on the meaning of decent work for refugees, considering their own perspectives, with the aim of offerin…
A process model of team effectiveness in extreme environments
Teamwork is the cornerstone of successful human endeavors in extreme environments, including intensive care units, firefighting operations, polar expeditions, and space. However, in such high‐stake contexts, adverse work conditions and mission challenges may negatively impact both team interactions and tangible team outputs if managed inadequately by organizational actors. To shed light on the drivers of effective teamwork in extreme environments…

How transactive memory systems and reflexivity relate with innovation in healthcare teams
Observing Synchrony in Dyads
This research tested whether observing members of a dyad behave in synchrony influences observers’ expectations and intentions about that dyad. In four studies, participants observed a dyad move in synchrony and were asked to make inferences about them. Results suggest that interpersonal synchrony serves as a social cue, such that observers expect the members of the dyad to work well together. Moreover, synchrony makes observers more likely to wa…
Better off together
Self-leadership is designed to influence positive outcomes like individuals' innovative capacity in the workplace. Nevertheless, research on the relationship between self-leadership and individual innovation has failed to determine which self-leadership strategies contribute to innovation. Thus, this study aims to: explore the existence of different profiles of self-leadership strategies in hospital nurses and, test if these different profiles ha…
Thought self-leadership and effectiveness in self-management teams
This study empirically examines the multilevel nature of thought self-leadership at work. Furthermore, this study tests the relationship between team level thought self-leadership and team effectiveness (i.e. performance and viability) through collective efficacy. A total of 103 self-management teams (453 individuals), enrolled in a five-week management competition participated in the study. The results from multilevel confirmatory factor analysi…
Multilevel Research in the Field of Organizational Behavior
During the last 30 years, significant debate has taken place regarding multilevel research. However, the extent to which multilevel research is overtly practiced remains to be examined. This article analyzes 10 years of organizational research within a multilevel framework (from 2001 to 2011). The goals of this article are (a) to understand what has been done, during this decade, in the field of organizational multilevel research and (b) to sugge…
