Intersectional solidarities and inter-individual affinities
This article draws on a research project about the transition from PhD student to academic (British Academy-Leverhulme research grant, 2020–2022). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 26 recent PhD graduates and six PhD supervisors. Transcripts were subjected to a thematic analysis. This article explores how academics with caring responsibilities negotiate the mobility imperative, with specific reference to attending conferences. This article draws primarily on a dataset of 60 semi-structured interviews conducted with teachers working in English and French state-funded secondary schools.
