This article analyses written online responses to Swedish retail stores’ social media advertisements broadly addressing the Muslim celebration of Ramadan. It is based on a selection of 19 social media advertisement posts that together generated a total of 2988 responses in discussion threads. Temporal Racism and the Invisibilization of Work
Through the concepts of temporal racism and racial capitalism, this article explores how time is racialized in Swedish unemployment projects, shaping a racialized and gendered division of labor. The article identifies three forms of temporal racism practices: temporal racism through the invisibilization of work, through waiting, and through wasting. Waiting in the welfare lines. Exploring everyday racism as waiting in the migration and unemployment complexes in England and Sweden
This article explores how different layers of waiting shape the everyday lives of women asylum seekers in the UK and unemployed women in Sweden. We examine the continuity of waiting between and within the migration, labour and welfare complexes. The analysis identifies three layers of everyday waiting: everyday waiting as repetition, everyday waiting as forced and denied work and everyday waiting as invisible and disposable time. In Sweden, austerity politics and market reforms have resulted in a renegotiation of working conditions negatively impacting female-dominated public sector- and welfare state workers.
