Multi-level Mapping of Tension in Cross-Sector Social Partnerships
This manuscript explores cross-sectoral social partnerships (CSSPs) through a four-tiered model highlighting tensions within individual organizations, between two or more players, within the new partnership and between that newly formed entity and the stakeholders it addresses. We draw insights from and develop the model according to the existing literature. We then provide examples of tensions in each of the four levels based on our case study o…
Towards a temporal theory of refugee crisis response
This article explores partnering over and across time in refugee response situations where stakeholders, needs, beneficiaries, and the nature of the crisis change. It is based on interviews and fieldwork in various European settings from the 1990s to 2023. All of that work targeted different research questions related to the coordination of refugee assistance. For this study, all of these interviews were recoded with a focus on change over time. …

The academic literature offers different views on the strength of Ukraine’s civil society, but Ukraine’s massive civic engagement and collective action, most recently in defense against Russian aggression, offers a startling picture of grass-root activism. In earlier times, the President of the ICRC may sometimes have been taxed with aloofness, unapproachability and unawareness of the practical action of National Societies. I think this is no longer the case. My predecessors and I myself have been cordially invited to visit National Red Cross Societies, and we in turn have had the pleasure of receiving their representatives in Geneva

The Iranian Red Lion and Sun Society certainly did things properly: not only did it organize to perfection the conference for seven hundred participants; it spared no effort to create an atmosphere of cordiality and friendship.
