Open Access•Jun Luo, Linhui Xie et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background Physical examinations are critical for early detection of spinal abnormalities and visual function issues in children. Spinal health has a significant impact on both physical and psychological well-being, while untreated abnormalities may lead to postural deformities. Despite evidence linking spinal posture and balance control to visual function, the relationship between these factors remains underexplored. This study investigates the …

Open Access•Jintao Wei, Shouyin Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Objective Medical domain large language models (LLMs) exhibit verified clinical decision-support capabilities in simulated case analyses and standardized tests, yet their diagnostic efficacy in real-world emergency settings remain insufficiently explored. This study evaluates the diagnostic performance of 5 mainstream LLMs (ChatGPT-4o, Gemini-2.0, Grok3, DeepSeek-V3, Doubao) against emergency department junior physicians (EDJP) on real-world emer…

Open Access•Lizhen Wei, Yu Tian et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background: Social participation is a key determinant of mental well-being in later life, yet population based research tends to focus on overall activity rather than on how participation is configured. In digitalized societies, unequal access to digital technologies shapes how older adults combine online and offline participation, with important but poorly understood implications for mental health. Methods: Using data from 8,427 adults aged 60 y…

  • Targeting green space accessibility gaps to mitigate urban heat island risk in rapidly urbanizing megacities

Open Access•Shen Li, Fuyu Huang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2026

Rapid urbanization and climate change are intensifying urban heat island (UHI) risk, especially in fast-growing megacities where built-up areas expand faster than cooling infrastructure. As a nature-based solution, urban green space plays a critical role in mitigating UHI effects, however its benefits remain uneven, and planners often lack clear evidence on where and who should be prioritized. In this study, we integrate UHI risk assessment with …

  • Individualized rs-fMRI reveals brain-circuit heterogeneity and predicts early recurrence in trigeminal neuralgia

Open Access•Zhijun Ma, Zheng Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

Patients with trigeminal neuralgia exhibit abnormalities in multiple brain regions. These findings demonstrate that individualized functional imaging biomarkers provide an effective framework for stratifying the risk of early postoperative recurrence. Specifically, abnormalities in the Insula_L, Fusiform_L, Cerebellum_3_R, Temporal_Sup_L, Vermis_3, and Fusiform_R can be defined as high-risk brain regions for predicting short-term recurrence after…
