The impact of a growth mindset on adolescents’ health risk behaviors
Health risk behaviors pose serious threats to adolescents’ physical and psychological well-being as well as their long-term development. Previous studies suggest that a growth mindset can serve as a positive cognitive resource that may be associated with such behaviors, but the underlying mechanisms remain underexplored. Guided by the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping, this study examined a longitudinal model in which a growth mindset is a…
Not all threats are equal
Through extending the psychological approach to threats, we advance a threat–contingency model to understand how two domains of host-country threats–symbolic and realistic–drive multinational enterprises (MNEs) to deploy parent-country nationals to manage their foreign subsidiaries. When faced with symbolic threats related to ethics and morals in a host country, MNEs act rigidly and conservatively, increasing the likelihood of deploying parent-co…
Cybervictimization and Depressive Symptoms in Middle School Students
Cybervictimization is a salient stressor in adolescents' lives and has been demonstrated to be strongly associated with depressive symptoms. However, the mechanisms underlying this association have not been sufficiently studied. Building on the diathesis–stress model and co‐construction theory, this study investigated the mediating role of peer alienation in the relationship between cybervictimization and adolescents' depressive symptoms, and the…

Team job‐related anxiety and creativity
Researchers have examined the effects of individual job‐related anxiety on employee attitudes and behaviors but have yet to examine whether team job‐related anxiety would have similar or different effects. Building on prior research on negative group affective tone and creativity, we propose that team job‐related anxiety has an inverted U‐shaped curvilinear relationship with both team and individual creativity. Furthermore, we posit that team coo…
Supervisors' paternalistic leadership influences college English teachers' teaching efficacy in China
Using social exchange theory and the social constructivist theory of emotion, I examined the relationship between supervisors' paternalistic leadership and college English teachers' teaching efficacy in China, as well as the roles emotional creativity and professional identity played in this relationship. Participants were 674 teachers of English at 30 colleges in China. Results of factor and correlation analyses, structural equation modeling, an…
The Relationships of Cross-Cultural Adjustment with Dispositional Learning Orientation and Goal Setting
In this article, the authors posit that dispositional learning orientation and self-set goal level are two critical motivational antecedents to cross-cultural adjustment. They collected longitudinal field data from 117 sojourning international undergraduate students. Regression results indicate that self-set academic and socialinteraction goal levels are positively related to academic and social adjustment, respectively. A dispositional learning …
