Exploring Indigenous Language and Psychological Health Among Kickapoo Tribe Bilingual Individuals
Participants in this study were eight bilingual Kiiweekaapaa (Kickapoo) Tribal members. Coders independently reviewed the interview transcripts using a micro analytic perspective and grounded theory methodology to identify concepts that represent participant responses. The identified themes included language fluency, translation concerns, culture, historical trauma, acculturative stress, and hope. The participants provide the field with a deeper …

Cultural Validity of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 Empirical Correlates
This article critically reviews empirical correlates of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2; Butcher, Dahlstrom, Graham, Tellegen, & Kaemmer, 1989), based on several validation studies conducted with different racial, ethnic, and cultural groups, and argues for the urgent development of culturally derived measures that would illuminate culturally relevant empirical correlates for use in validating the MMPI-2.Este artículo ex…

This study investigated the normative validity of the MMPI-2 with two distinct American Indian tribes. Differences occurred on 8 of the 13 basic validity and clinical scales (F, 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) between the MMPI-2 norms and both tribal samples.
