  • Investigating SNPs Flanking the D1S80 Locus in a Tamil Population from India

Kuppareddi Balamurugan, Robert Pomeroy et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2010

D1S80 is a 16-bp variable number of tandem repeats minisatellite. We analyzed single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) flanking this locus in a Tamil population. Alleles ranged from 15 through 41 repeats, with alleles 18 and 24 being predominant with frequencies of 31% and 34.5%, respectively, suggesting a bimodal allelic distribution. All the 18-repeat alleles are associated with HinfI(+) and FnuAHI(-) restriction site polymorphisms at the 5' and …

  • D1S80 Single-Locus Discrimination Among African Populations

    Rene J Herrera, Leslie R Adrien et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2004•Citada por: 4

The highly polymorphic D1S80 locus has no known genetic function. However, this variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) locus has been highly valuable in forensic identification. In this study we report the allele and genotype frequencies of five African populations (Benin, Cameroon, Egypt, Kenya, and Rwanda), which can be used as databases to help characterize populations and identify individuals. The allele frequencies were used to infer genet…

  • The Risk of Disclosure for Microdata

George Duncan, George T Duncan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•1989

Statistical agencies that provide microdata for public use strive to keep the risk of disclosure of confidential information negligible. Assessing the magnitude of the risk of disclosure is not easy, however. Whether a data user or intruder attempts to obtain confidential information from a public-use file depends on the perceived costs of identifying a record, the perceived probability of success, and the information expected to be gained. In th…

    Kenneth L Kraemer, Thomas J Bergin et al.•ARTICLE•Public Administration Review•1986•Citada por: 5•Referências: 1

The United States is increasingly becoming an information society. Over half of the labor force is now engaged in work requiring some level of information processing. Computers are the engines powering this information society and, consequently, their diffusion is considerable and growing. Moreover, from the beginning of the computer age, government has been at the forefront of computer utilization. Given the extensive diffusion of computers thro…
