In the 1980s and 1990s, many cemeteries of early nomads on the territory of Ustyurt were studied under the supervision of Vladimir N. Yagodin. Mapping ancient hunting installations on the Ustyurt Plateau, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan
Hunting installations have been known in the Aralo-Caspian region since the mid-20th century. An extensive study of many of these, based on archaeological survey and excavation, was published by V. Yagodin in 1991 when the Ustyurt Plateau lay within the Soviet Union. Karakalpak-Australian Excavations in Ancient Chorasmia, 2001–2005
This article presents the interim results of the Karakalpak-Australian excavations for the years 2001–2005 at the site of Kazakl'i-yatkan in north-western Uzbekistan. Data is presented on the construction and absolute chronology of the fortifications and an architectural survey of contemporary standing monuments in the region. Kazakl'i- yatkan was a major site in the delta of the Amu-dar'ya and was possibly at one time a regional capital. A serie…
Osteoarchaeological evidence for leprosy from western Central Asia
Published reports of palaeopathological analyses of skeletal collections from Central Asia are, to date, scarce. During the macroscopic examination of skeletal remains dating to the early first millennium AD from the Ustyurt Plateau, Uzbekistan, diagnostic features suggestive of leprosy were found on one individual from Devkesken 6.
