  • Identification of a female murder victim found in Burgenland, Austria in 1993

Open Access•Christine Lehn, Andreas Roßmann et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Sciences Research•2021•Referências: 3

In 1993, the skeletal remains of a female corpse were found in Burgenland, Austria. Initial identification of the approximately 25-35-year-old female appeared impossible, but the case was reopened 23 years later. By applying biogeochemical isotope methods to her body tissues, the geographical origin of the unknown corpse could be predicted. The results of the C, N, S, H, Sr, and Pb isotope analyses suggested that the female did not originate from…

  • Signs of malnutrition and starvation—Reconstruction of nutritional life histories by serial isotopic analyses of hair

Open Access•Ferdinand M Neuberger, Eilin Jopp et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Science International•2013

  • The activity ratio of 228Th to 228Ra in bone tissue of recently deceased humans

    B Zinka, Robert Kandlbinder et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2012•Citada por: 1

Reliable determination of time since death in human skeletons or single bones often is limited by methodically difficulties. Determination of the specific activity ratio of natural radionuclides, in particular of 232Th (Thorium), 228Th and 228Ra (Radium) seems to be a new appropriate method to calculate the post mortem interval. These radionuclides are incorporated by any human being, mainly from food. So with an individual's death the uptake of …

  • Adipocere withstands 1600 years of fluctuating groundwater levels in soil

  • Recommendations for the forensic diagnosis of sex and age from skeletons

Open Access•F W Rösing, Matthias Graw et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2007

  • Diameter of the human internal acoustic meatus and sex determination

    Open Access•Niels Lynnerup, Moritz Schulz et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2006•Citada por: 4•Referências: 5

We report the results of testing the diameter of the internal opening of the acoustic canal in the petrous part of the temporal bone for sex determination of skeletal remains. The method involves measuring the diameter using a suite of ordinary drills. The method is very simple and has the great advantage of utilising one of the sturdiest bone elements of the human skeleton. The method may be especially useful for the analyses of very fragmented …

  • Lateral angle

Open Access•Anna Norén, Niels Lynnerup et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2005•Citada por: 9•Referências: 6

We report on the results of applying the so-called lateral angle method for sex determination on skeletal remains. The lateral angle denotes the angle of the internal auditory canal in relation to the medial surface of the petrous part of the temporal bone. The method involves making a small cast of the proximal part of the internal acoustic canal and determining the angle at which the canal opens up to the surface of the petrous bone. The method…

  • Investigations on the reliability of determiningan individual's age from the proximal femur

    Open Access•Kristina-D Gehring, H T Haffner et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2002

  • The form of the supraorbital margin as a criterion in identification of sex from the skull

Open Access•Matthias Graw, Alfred Czarnetzki et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1999•Referências: 5

Sexual dimorphism in the shape of the supraorbital margin was reported by Broca and various subsequent authors, but no consistently applied, precise definition has been established. In this study of modern human skulls, the value of our definition of the sex-related difference in this area in the identification of sex from the skull was investigated. It was found that this feature can be assessed reliably, is strongly related to sex, and is indep…
