  • Inferring past demographic changes at different spatial scales in Northwest Patagonia and central‐south Chile

    Open Access•Virginia Cobos, Virginia A Cobos et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2024•Referências: 66

In this study, we compare the patterns of demographic changes in populations from Northwest Patagonia and central‐south Chile throughout the Late Pleistocene–Holocene obtained from absolute dates with those resulting from molecular genealogies. We have found that temporal distributions of frequencies of absolute dates constitute a more sensitive demographic indicator than molecular data to make inferences at small spatial scales in the region. Mo…

  • Spatio-temporal demographic dynamics of the human populations from Northwest Patagonia and central Chile during the Pleistocene-Holocene

    Open Access•Virginia Cobos, Virginia A Cobos et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2022•Citada por: 5•Referências: 36

  • First analysis of mitochondrial lineages from the eastern Pampa–Patagonia transition during the final late Holocene

Open Access•María Bárbara Postillone, Gustavo Martínez et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2020•Citada por: 4•Referências: 43

OBJECTIVE: Studies on population genetics have become highly relevant for understanding the evolutionary history of human settlement in southern South America. The eastern Pampa-Patagonia transition is an area that stands out due to its complex population dynamics, especially during the last about 1,000 years BP. The aim of this work is to characterize the maternal lineages of individuals buried in the Paso Alsina 1 archaeological site (ca. 500 y…

  • Hunter-Gatherer Persistence and Demography in Patagonia (Southern South America)

Open Access•Bernal, Valeria Bernal et al.•CHAPTER•Hunter-Gatherer Adaptation and…•2018

The results of this chapter suggest that hunter-gatherers from northwest and south Patagonia were resilient to the significant ecological changes that took place during the Late Pleistocene and Early Holocene. In particular, the rate of population growth was resistant to reduction in the diversity of available resources as a consequence of megafaunal extinctions around 10 000 BP. The resistance of hunter-gatherers from northwest and south Patagon…

  • Mitochondrial-DNA Phylogenetic Information and the Reconstruction of Human Population History

María Bárbara Postillone, María Bárbara Postillone María Bárbara Postillone et…•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2017•Citada por: 1•Referências: 3

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences are becoming increasingly important in the study of human population history. Here, we explore the diffferences in the amount of information of diffferent mtDNA regions and their utility for the reconstruction of South American population history. We analyzed six data sets comprising 259 mtDNA sequences from South America: Complete mtDNA, Coding, Control, hypervariable region I (HVRI), Control plus cytochrome b…

  • Domestication and human demographic history in South America

Open Access•I Pérez, María Bárbara Postillone et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2017•Citada por: 3•Referências: 48

OBJECTIVES: The early groups of hunter-gatherers who peopled South America faced significant ecological changes in their trophic niche for a relatively short period after the initial peopling. In particular, the incorporation of cultigens during the Holocene led to a wider trophic niche and probably to an increased carrying capacity of the environment. Here, we study the relationship between the incorporation of domestic resources during the Holo…

  • Peopling time, spatial occupation and demography of Late Pleistocene–Holocene human population from Patagonia

  • Linajes Maternos en Muestras Antiguas De La Puna Jujeña. Comparacion Con Estudios De La Region Centro-Sur Andina
