Mapping food access
Limited access to affordable, nutritious food is a key structural determinant of health inequality. In the United Kingdom, food desert risk is often assumed to mirror socioeconomic deprivation, yet their alignment across small-area geographies remains unclear. To characterize the spatial distribution of food desert risk across England, Wales, and Scotland; quantify its association and concordance with area-level deprivation; and identify deprivat…
Women's Use of Intimate Partner Aggression
Identity-based discrimination experiences have been associated with intimate partner aggression (IPA) use, yet very little research has examined sexist discrimination. This study explored whether women's experiences of sexist discrimination are associated with their IPA use. Participants were 626 predominantly white, cisgender, heterosexual women who completed self-report measures online. Women's sexist experiences were significantly and positive…
Race/ethnicity-specific associations between breastfeeding information source and breastfeeding rates among U.S. women
Associations between breastfeeding information source and breastfeeding rates vary across race/ethnicity. Culturally tailored breastfeeding information and support from family/friends and support groups could help reduce breastfeeding disparities. Additional measures are needed to address disparities related to concerns about return to work/school
Perceived general, mental, and physical health of Latinos in the United States following adoption of immigrant-inclusive state-level driver’s license policies
Among all Latinos living in the U.S., immigrant-inclusive license policies were associated with fewer perceived poor physical health days per month and fewer adults experiencing poor physical and mental health. Because anti-immigrant policies can harm Latino communities regardless of immigration status and further widen health inequities, implementing state policies that do not restrict access to driver licenses based on immigrant status document…

Objectives. To determine the prevalence of COVID-19-related discrimination among major US racial/ethnic groups and estimate associations between discrimination, race/ethnicity, and other sociodemographic characteristics. Methods. Does Trauma Help Explain the Need for Power and Control in Perpetrators of Intimate Partner Violence
Sexist Discrimination and Women’s Use of Intimate Partner Aggression
Women’s use of intimate partner aggression remains a controversial research topic. Studies suggest that experiences of racism and heterosexism are associated with the use of intimate partner aggression among people impacted by these forms of oppression. Women also have unique experiences of discrimination that may be associated with their use of intimate partner aggression. The current study examined the direct association between women’s experie…
Centrality of traumatic events and men’s intimate partner violence perpetration
The results indicate that the extent to which a trauma becomes central to one's identity is important in understanding the links between trauma exposure, PTSSs, and IPV perpetration. These findings support the development and application of trauma-informed interventions to reduce IPV perpetration and reduce event centrality in this population.
