  • Rates and independent correlates of Pap smear testing among Korean-American women

    B A Wismer, Barbara Wismer et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1998•Citada por: 4•Referências: 3

OBJECTIVES: This study reports population estimates of Pap smear testing among Korean-American women and evaluates correlates of testing. METHODS: Korean Americans in 2 California counties were surveyed by telephone. Frequencies were age-adjusted to the 1990 census to produce population estimates of testing. Logistic regression models were used to evaluate independent correlates of testing RESULTS: Only 50% of the Korean-American women surveyed h…

  • Comparative Responsiveness of Generic Versus Disease-Specific and Weighted Versus Unweighted Health Status Measures in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Louis Bessette, Oliver Sangha et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1998•Referências: 21

OBJECTIVES: The authors evaluated the relative responsiveness to change of generic versus disease-specific and unweighted versus weighted health status measures in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). METHODS: Data were obtained from 196 subjects followed in a prospective community-based cohort study in Maine who underwent carpal tunnel release (The Maine Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Study). Patients were evaluated before and 6 months after surgery. The disea…

  • Trends in prevalences of behavioral risk factors

    C S Chung, Arnold Villafuerte et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1992•Citada por: 3•Referências: 3

Recent time trends were studied for the prevalences of behavioral risk factors in Hawaii during the 5-year period from 1986 through 1990. The presence of linear time trend was analyzed by the multiple logistic regression method on weighted data, adjusting for confounding factors. The risk factors studied were seatbelt nonuse, lack of exercise, obesity, hypertension, smoking, acute drinking, chronic drinking, and driving while intoxicated. Seatbel…

  • Bioassay of Kinship in Populations of Middle Eastern Origin and Controls [and Comments and Replies]

    Newton E Morton, Ron S Kenett et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1982•Citada por: 6

Gene frequencies for 32 populations show 3 Jewish and 4 gentile clusters. From phenotype frequencies the estimate of inbreeding F is .0110 for populations in the Middle East and .0002 for other populations. Differentiation of populations in the region is small (F =.026) compared with that of the species as a whole (F =.146). Kinship between populations is appreciable within clusters but much less within the total Jewish and gentile groups (.004 a…

  • Behavioral, social, and physiological determinants of lipoprotein concentrations

    C L Gulbrandsen, N E Morton et al.•ARTICLE•Social Biology•1977•Citada por: 1•Referências: 1

The Lipoprotein Family Study of Japanese‐Americans in Hawaii is described. Measured effects of the behavioral, social, and physiological milieu (apart from age and sex) account for little of the variance. Subsequent papers will consider the genetic and cultural causes of family resemblance in this material
