The Ax Fighton CD-ROM

In The Ax Fight [1975], Timothy Asch and Napoleon Chagnon introduced many innovative techniques that have since become standard in nonlinear multimedia. Yanomamö Interactive, a CD‐ROM for computer use, extends these techniques to enhance understanding of the film. The CD contains a copy of the film as well as analytical essays, photographs, maps, genealogies and raw genealogical data from the village where the film was made. Features of the CD are described in relation to five sections of The Ax Fight. Then research exercises with the CD version of the film are proposed. Exercises explore difficulties of fieldwork, selective perception, and debates that surround Yanomamö studies
