This article deals with changes in the structure of an Indic language in Trinidad. The explanations of the structural changes are sought in the socio-cultural changes of the East Indian community that have occurred since the East Indians' arrival in Trinidad. It is demonstrated that the socio-cultural changes in the community have influenced the range of functions of the Indic languages in Trinidad which in turn has determined the directions of structural changes in the language
