A UFO in the French landscape. Some elements on the evaluation of public policies in France. Philippe Corcuff. [190-209]. This article identifies the problems linked to the evaluation of public policies as they appear in the French literature. In this review, the author looks first - with the help of the late Wittgenstein philosophy - at the difficulties associated with the word and the plurality of its uses. It is then possible to observe that, in the emergence of this new social sector, the symbolic struggles about the question of evaluation are not exclusive of some kind of unification, the author is then concerned with controversies about the methodology, with its sociological and philosophical dimensions. Finally, the author looks at some aspects of the relations between evaluation and social sciences
