The misuse of loyalty? James Dundas and the faculty of advocates' letter to Queen Anne of 1711

This article discusses a pamphlet written by James Dundas in 1711 attacking the Glorious Revolution, the settlement of the crown of England on the Hanoverians, and the Anglo-Scottish Union of 1707. It explores the circumstances surrounding the pamphlet's composition, conflicting interpretations of its meaning, and Dundas's ensuing trial for ‘leasing-making’ and sedition. The publication here for the first time of a full text of Dundas's pamphlet, which is appended to the article, allows us to explain better the proceedings against him published in State Trials
