Over the years the word ‘globalisation’ has increasingly been used to refer to a process through which the entire human population is bonded into a ‘single system’, a ‘single society’, or ‘the structuration of world as a whole’, as defmed by Robertson.2 This ‘single system,’ then forms the framework for individual activities and nation-state operations. It is conceived both as a journey and a destination—with arrival at the globalised state finality, which constitutes a unit of analysis in its own right.3 In other words, globalisation is seen as the widening, deepening and speeding up of worldwide interconnectedness in all aspects of contemporary social life
