How can the needs of women in Toronto's traditional hostel population—the transient and homeless—and its newer hostel population—deinstitutionalized chronic and ex-psychiatric patients—be met? This article describes a daytime drop-in program for isolated women and contends that the program's competence-oriented practice framework provides the nurturing and education the women need.
