This letter to the editor describes South Africa’s lack of proper health infrastructure which has led to inequalities in access to healthcare. This primarily affects the population’s access to HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis treatments. The South African government and the U.S.’s PEPFAR program have been working to reverse this trend. Recent data indicates that there is an association between the burden of HIV/AIDS and the people tested for HIV/AIDS as well as the vulnerable populations supported by treatment. There is no association between the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and socioeconomic status or existing infrastructure. The use of PEPFAR services is intended reduce healthcare inequities in this population
