This research emphasises the practice of land fragmentation, which is one of the triggers of land use change. This study aims to determine the level of privately owned forest land fragmentation and its impact on farmers’ land access and poverty in the Citanduy Watershed, Indonesia. The results showed that privately owned forest land fragmentation around the Citanduy Watershed occurred downstream, midstream, and upstream. The level of privately owned forest land fragmentation in the upstream and downstream is low, while in the midstream, it is high. Privately owned forest land fragmentation in the Citanduy Watershed is dominated by land inheritance. Small landholdings are jointly managed by parents and children, resulting in shared poverty. Privately owned forest land fragmentation has no discernible influence on poverty among privately owned forest farmers. Poverty is more related to low or no access to agricultural land and limited land ownership
