The fact that our results indicated positive self-perceptions for disadvantaged children appears to be bothersome to the writer of the critique because it is not in agreement with results obtained by others (or so it is thought) and with the viewpoint of the majority expressed in the literature. Even if this were true, when has any knowledgeable researcher ever advocated disregarding research results because these results were not in the same stream as the views expressed by the majority? The false assumption being made is that research results in the are necessarily invalid. The authors acknowledged in the original article that there were more references supporting negative self-perceptions rather than positive, although most of it has been opinion rather than research evidence. Even so, more research results in the so-called minority
