This paper seeks to analyze the representation of landscapes in three of Romesh Gunesekera’s novels, Reef (1994), The Sandglass (1998) and Heaven’s Edge (2002). It examines how “landscape” is treated by Gunesekera not just as a material entity but also as symbolic-as a repository of myth and imagination, and as a “veil behind which violence and viciousness hide”. This is done by exploring Gunesekera’s sense of place and his “way of seeing” the landscape of Sri Lanka
