Young people are increasingly turning to question-and-answer online environments such as Yahoo! Answers for advice. This paper reports on a qualitative investigation of the content and meaning behind 30 questions and 212 answers posted on Yahoo! Answers (2005–11) about incidents of sexual assault within a dating relationship or between school “friends”. A comparison was made between the responses of sexual assault counsellors and other members. Interpretive description methodology was used in the analysis. Relationship status, time since the abuse, and age influenced the extent to which Askers were able to name the incident as abuse. The answers provided by counsellors typically included a supportive comment, advice (personal, legal, and medical), reflection or interpretation, resources, and places to go for help. Other members' answers lacked consistency, often failing to provide appropriate advice, empathy, and resources. Counselling organisations could consider providing online services for people who are seeking help for sexual assault
