The interest in young people’s daily life is growing; the pressures and demands they are confronting, and the way they use their leisure time is changing. This article examines time use of 12 to19-year old Norwegian adolescents who attend school and live at home with their parents. The data are taken from Norwegian time use surveys of 1990 and 2000. The sample size of the adolescent population aged 16 to 19 was 238 in 1999 and 160 in 2000.The article examines current time use of the adolescents, as well as the changes in the amount of time spent on school-related activities, paid work, personal needs and free time over the past ten years. Time use is reported for school days and weekend days (excluding summer and Christmas vacations), for both boys and girls. Analyses reported in this article show that a large part of adolescents’ time is spent on school and studying, but paid work also plays an important role for many adolescents. School related time, paid work and domestic work create a heavy workload for many young persons. This may mean lack of leisure time, lack of sleep and a day filled with stress
