This paper proposes a classification of the research on the content of the televised political debates dividing them into five different types: linguistic analysis, thematic analysis, content analysis, rhetorical analysis and strategic analysis. A new type of analysis is also proposed, argumentative analysis which is different from rhetorical analysis. Finally, the paper puts forward an interpretative pattern for the totality of the analysis of the content of such debates
