In the immediate aftermath of the Labour Party's fourth consecutive general election defeat, comparisons have inevitably been drawn with the torpor which followed the 1987 general election. Once again the Scottish leadership of the Labour Party have frozen like rabbits caught in the headlights of an approaching lorry and allowed the Tories time to re-group. Once again the failure to countenance defeat and the inability to formulate, even privately, a strategy to deal with such an eventuality has rendered the Labour Party impotent
