Gallery 7 of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews [POLIN Muzeum Historii Żydów Polskich], which is dedicated to the Shoah, depicts the catastrophe through the victims, and this is a sensitive and insightful approach; however, it falls short as a representation of the utmost atrocity in human history (the Shoah). In this paper I argue that Gallery 7 is a tribute to the memory of the three million Polish Jewish victims and a valuable contribution to the remembrance of the six million European Jewish men, women, and children who were murdered in the ghettos, the transports, the massacres of the Einsatzgruppen, and the six extermination camps (Chełmno, Bełżec, Sobibór, Treblinka II, Auschwitz-Birkenau, and Majdanek). I also criticize POLIN’s insufficient approach to antisemitism, while unpacking the significant problems stemming from trying to portray POLIN’s permanent exhibition as a celebration of life instead of a remembrance of the annihilation of European Jewry. I further argue that Gallery 7 is somewhat underwhelming and fails to truly portray the atrocities of the Shoah, while suggesting, since there is no Holocaust Museum in either Warsaw or Poland, that POLIN could use several galleries (and not just one) to portray the Shoah
