AbstractThis article is aimed at presenting some conclusions defended in the thesis: The use of didactical History books: between tactic and prescription. This research purpose was the investigation on the use of the History didactic book (LdH) by teachers in the first Fundamental Level segment. This book was distributed by the PNLD 2004.We have adopted a theoretical and methodological perspective which had, as main references, the categories of school culture, knowledge and teaching practices, based on the dialogue between the Teaching fields of History and Sociology of Education. In the construction of such categories, our theoretical references, especially concerning the teachers knowledge, were Tardif and Lessard (2005) and Monteiro (2002), among others. For this article, we shall focus on data presentation and analysis which sought to answer some issues investigated in that research, especially those related to the teachers personal and professional profiles. Our interest, in the end, is to contribute for the understanding of History teaching and, specifically, for the construction of policies on behalf of the improvement of education quality which may give priority to the formation and so as to the guarantee of better work conditions for their teachers
