Recently Braen ( 1960) reported the development of the Self Description Inventory (SDI) which is designed to measure manifest rigidity in college srudents. The SDI consists of 49 true and false items measuring four item sets, inferred from the Lewinian rigidity construct and called: Homogeneity-Heterogeneity ( Hom-Het ) , Coherence-Incoherence (Coh-Inc ) , Deliberation-Impulsivity (Del-Imp), and Externalization-Internalization (Ext-Int) . Also included is the 15-item Lie scale from the MMPl and 136 filler items. Later a short form of the SDI (49 rigidity items and the 15-item Lie scale) was used with high school students (Braen & Wallen, 1960). In both studies odd-even reliability was assessed. The purposes of the present investigation were to determine the restretest reliabilities of both the short and long forms of the SDI and to determine the relationship between forms. Students from three undergraduate psychology classes were Ss. Class 1 was administered the long form of the SDI twice with an interval of three weeks between testings. The procedure was identical for Class 2 except
