Our hypothesis was that corresponding tests from two purportedly equivalent scholastic assessment batteries administered to the same pupils at approximately the same school period should yield similar scores. The CAT battery has only three tests (reading, arithmetic, and language), while the ITED battery had seven scores, with the information sources cest being given in addition to those described. Comparisons between the two batteries were based on the factorial study of the ITED (1) and the similarly named tests from the CAT battery, i.e., 1 :reading from CAT against interpretation of social studies from the ITED, 2:arithmetic from CAT against quantitative from the ITED, 3:language from CAT against correctness of expression from the ITED, and total score of the CAT against the total score of the ITED. Results.-T scores with a mean (M) of 50 and a standard deviation (SD) of 10 are given in Table 1. The Pearson TS for all comparative corresponding scores from the CAT and ITED batteries are statistically significant; however, only the reading cest scores have significant practical construct or concurrent validity, i.e., could be reasonably substicuced for each other with half or more common variables between them (Pearson T of .70 or better). Only the reading and the total score comparisons have comparable Ms, and none of the comparisons show similar SDs. In all instances the ITED test has the smaller SD. The CAT arithmetic score tends to be higher than the ITED quantitative score; while 'Educational Advisor in Tescs and Measuremenu, Uoited States Operations Mission/AID, Saigon, Viet-Nam
