60 men and 60 women rated self and ideal-self on a 30-item rating scale. Ss then chose the ten items of most and least personal meaning. Items of high meaningfulness were rated mote extremely than those of low meaningfulness under both Self and Ideal-self instructions. The effect was particularly apparent on the ideal-self measure
