The Lovedu society is probably the only one in Africa where preferential marriage with the MBD generates generalized exchange. This situation seems to result from several connected factors : the sister's right on her brother's daughter, women's status and their control of marriage. This leads to reconsider the question on bridewealth and allows for comparison between WoDaaBe, Bemba and Lovedu marriage practices
