Frank A. Kafker: The Encyclopedists and 18th-century Paris. The autor undertakes a study of the numbers of encyclopedists living in Paris and attempts to draw general conclusions. Although most of the collaborators on the Encyclopédie were not born in Paris, the majority of them were attracted to the capital. Many however left Paris during the Revolution, as the town seemed dangerous to them, and they tended to look back with nostalgia on the Ancien Régime
