On 20 November 1565 Prince Ferdinand of Bavaria (1550–1608) led a party from Munich to Florence. Here he represented his parents Albrecht and Anna of Bavaria at the wedding of Anna's sister, Johanna of Austria, to Duke Francesco de' Medici. Ferdinand also visited two more of his Habsburg aunts before returning home two weeks after his sixteenth birthday, on 2 February 1566. They were Eleanor, who had married Duke Guglielmo Gonzaga of Mantua in 1561, and Barbara, second of the three wives of Duke Alfonso II d'Este of Ferrara, who was still celebrating her marriage. The purpose of this study is to provide some commentary upon points arising from a description of the Florentine wedding INTERMEDI of Wednesday 26 December 1565, in the 1565–66 travel diary of Prince Ferdinand of Bavaria. This lengthy account, overlooked by modern historians of INTERMEDI, is examined in the context of Italian contemporary and near-contemporary records of the 1565 INTERMEDI
