Les contrats ecrits existaient deja au moment de la naissance de l'Islam. Le mode habituel de publication a ete le canal oral depuis le 9e siecle notamment en ce qui a concerne la poesie. A l'inverse d'autres oeuvres de la litterature arabe, le Coran a ete transmis par deux modes paralleles : par la deposition de copies principales et par la recitation. Ces deux modes sont entres en concurrence car ils ont concerne des personnes tres differentes aux idees et interets divers. La connaissance a ete transmise non par la copie mais directement de personne a personne par l'ecoute
