The present article aims to analyze Shared Residence through the view of female status. The new perception of the democratic family estimates possibilities of full access to public and private spaces to both spouses. However, despite recent legislation favoring the joint responsibility for the offspring, with the end of the marital bond, the economic and emotional gender division present in the social imaginary clearly shows the dramatic differences between men and women on what concerns family and work relations.Massively prevalent in the Brazilian reality, the Sole Custody overloads the mother and allows the father's detachment, making visible that even nowadays, the latter's function of provider and the former's of children caregiver is uncritically reproduced, even when the mother also works outside home.Considering that, it is discussed full access to work that enables women's both financial independence and existential emancipation, in a reflection that intends to entangle it in the family functions, which are still mainly gender-defined in the custody awarding
