In this article, we propose a comparative reading of the plague episode caused by Apollo's wrath between Homer's Iliad and the anonymous ancient novel Ephemeris belli Troiani. To do so, we divided the analysis into three parts: the cause of the plague, its consequences on the relationship among the characters and how this disease is cured. It is concluded that, both in the epic and in the novel, the cause of the pest is the result of the affront to Chryses, Apollo's priest, and that the remedy for evil causes the dispute between Agamemnon and Achilles. The comparison still indicates that, in Ephemeris, there is a certain decrease in the heroic and divine character of the mythical Trojan narrative
