In parthenos inter filias regis
The present article presents the translation of the episode of Achilles’ stay at the court of King Lycomedes in the Latin work Excidium Troiae (c. 4th-6th centuries AD). The text addresses the mythological concealment of Achilles by his mother, Thetis, who disguised him as a woman among Lycomedes’ daughters. Although anonymous, Excidium Troiae suggests the influence of classical sources and may have been a medieval compilation based on earlier te…
Ad Paridem uenerunt
The anonymous Latin work Excidium Troiae (c. IV-VI AD) is a mythical text that narrates the Trojan War (from the wedding of Peleus and Thetis to the fall of the Trojan city), the wanderings of Aeneas and part of the Roman history, from its foundation to the reign of Augustus Caesar. To do so, we divided the analysis into three parts: the cause of the plague, its consequences on the relationship among the characters and how this disease is cured. It is concluded that, both in the epic and in the novel, the cause of the pest is the result of the affront …
O presente a…
