In parallel with Rothstein a measure of community organization is defined, termed the “organization component” of an association. In the examples investigated this relationship is found to increase with succession. It is postulated that communities having high diversity and low components of organization are not biologically stable. Communities possessing high diversity as well as high levels of organization are suggested to be biologically stabilized with respect to current physical circumstances. The concept of intra and extra cyclic selection is developed to deal with the problem of magnitude change in physical components of the environment and their consequent effects on biologically stabilized communities. The effects of industrial pollutants on stability of biological communities by way of simplification is also examined. This is the second section of a two part paper which deals specifically with organization and community development. The first section concerned relationships between structural and species diversity in conjunction with community development
