A two-dimensional configuration obtained using a nonmetric technique described by Kruskal (1964), showed clear and almost perfect clustering of the items of the Eysenck Personality Inventory into the original Extraversion, Neuroticism and Lie scales. Comparison with a second configuration, plotted using data from Howarth (1976), which had been obtained by conventional factor-analytic techniques, showed a high level of agreement between the nonmetric result and Howarth's third order solution
