Previous research has indicated the need for some children to seek psychoeducational assistance following the separation or divorce of their parents. This study examines the efficacy of a psychoeducational program designed to reduce the negative implications of marital discord and to teach children effective strategies for dealing with divorce. Six hundred fifty-two children and adolescents participated in programming. An equal number of male and female participants were included. The results show that the Building Healthy Families program was helpful in teaching children and adolescents about the changing roles of family members and about positive coping skills following parental separation. The program also identified interesting perceptions of youth regarding their relationships with parents and siblings following a divorce. The results of the study offer interesting suggestions for therapists and clinicians working with children and adolescents going through a parental separation or divorce
